According to NFL Network's insider Tom Pelissero, the Tennessee Titans are signing former Denver Broncos linebacker Cody Barton to a three-year deal worth $21 million dollars.
Barton signed a one-year deal with the Broncos last offseason and ended up being a full-time starter for them. His role and responsibility grew after Alex Singleton tore his ACL early in the season and made Barton the Broncos' top linebacker for the remainder of the season.
He had his ups and downs throughout the year and ended up being a bit of a liability as the season went on, but all things considered, he played well for the Broncos last season. Barton played in all 17 games for the Broncos last season and totaled 106 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, 5 pass deflections, 2 interceptions, one forced fumble and one defensive touchdown. Now, he'll join a Titans defense and be their starting linebacker moving forward.
With Barton officially gone, the Broncos linebacker room remains pretty questionable. Alex Singleton is coming off a torn ACL, Drew Sanders hasn't proven he can be a starter yet, and Levelle Bailey is fighting for a roster spot. They are in a bidding war for 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw, so we'll see how that goes, but if they miss out on him, things aren't looking great for the Broncos at linebacker.
At the end of the day, Barton gets a pretty significant raise in pay and a long-term starting job with the Titans while the Broncos continue to search for their upgrade at linebacker.
