Port Layola FC stuns Napoles FC, 4-1, in PLB football

Port Layola FC stunned Napoles FC of Belmopan, 4-1, in Week 10 of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2025-2026 Opening Season at the Marion Jones Sports Complex on Monday evening, October 13, to remain in 2nd place with 15 pts.

Mikey Palacio (4') opened the scoreboard for Port Layola, Brian Chavez (32') made it 2-0, and Argentine import Fernando Aguirres (44') delivered a 3rd goal for Port to lead 3-0 at the half. Gilroy "Laing" Thurton, Juan Luquez, Shawn Young and Jarrel Young pressed for more goals, and Napoles defenders Krismar Martinez, Darwin Neal, and Cesar Perez were hard pressed to contain the onslaught.

Daijon Daniels and Kallai Cho led Napoles' counterattack, supported by Jalen Myers, Kyle Thomas, Colombian import Jhon Vasquez, and Brazil import Aloisio Teixeira at midfield. But Chavez, Louis Valdez, Justin Trapp and Colombian import Ernesto Caicedo gave them short shrift to help goalkeeper Carlos Palacio, Jr. keep a clean slate up to intermission.

Gabriel "Ramito" Ramos, Jr, Marvin Flowers, Johan Jaimes and Marlon Jones reinforced the visitors' defense after the break, and substitute goalkeeper Chryston Dyck replaced Eathon Wagner in the web. Daniels (59') scored a consolation goal for the visitors.

It was their only flash in the pan, as Port's technical director Ryan Simpson reinforced his attack formation with Trimayne "Peppa" Harrris, Shemar "Busta" Thomas and Wayne Ford, replacing Mikey Palacio, Aguires and Caicedo. Thurton set table for Harris (77') to make it 4-1, and Simpson introduced Akeem "Bib" Sutherland to relieve Shawn Young, and Jahmani Hope came off the bench to help secure the 4-1 win.

At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium on Saturday night, Progresso FC marched over winless Benque United, 4-0, led by Latrell Middleton's brace (57' & 90+3'), after Keydenshay Bowen (1') had opened the scoreboard early, and Walter Gomez (73') delivered the 3rd goal.

The Belmopan vs Wagiya SC match scheduled to have been played at the Carl Ramos Stadium on Sunday, will most likely be played as a backmatch, at a time and venue to be decided by the league.
