Hercules athletes excel and break course records across the UK in recent events

It was a couple of weeks of course records and national medals as Hercules athletes excelled across the UK.

Competing this Saturday in Sutton Park, Birmingham, at the English National Road Relay Championships, the Under-15 Boys produced a stunning performance to earn national bronze, moving through the field throughout and taking a medal on the final of three laps.

First up was James Fraser, who clocked 12:46 on an always uber-competitive opening leg, leaving the team in 17th.

Max Harrison continued the rise, his 12:58 lifting Hercules up to eighth, with Theo Creed ripping through the rest of the field to overtake Charnwood AC late on and earn team bronze.

It is an outstanding achievement, with 93 teams taking part and all having to qualify via their regions.

Competing last weekend at the Loch Ness Marathon, Alex Milne shattered the course record by over three and a half minutes to cruise to the title in 2:15:46, over six minutes clear of his nearest opposition.

The GB international, who is enjoying his most successful year ever aged 35, had company for just two of the 26.2 miles, moving away early on and time-trialling his way to within two minutes of his personal best on an undulating course.

His time lowers the one-year-old course best from Moray Pryde, a record that broke a previous best set all the way back in 2009.

It would see Milne tied for third on the Hercules all-time list, if he didn't occupy second already by virtue of his London Marathon 19th place from earlier this year.

Not to be outdone, this week a man less familiar with the marathon, though an international at shorter events, earned a fantastic fourth place at the always competitive Chester Marathon, moving himself up to seventh on the Hercules all-time list.

Cornish made his debut over the distance at this year's London Marathon, where he ran 2:23, but he improved on it by two and a half minutes to clock 2:20:54 -- the 38th quickest marathon run by a UK athlete this year (Milne sits eighth).

Cornish will no doubt next tackle an attempt under the 2:20 barrier.

In other road racing, Ruby Carter improved her own female club 10k record by 23 seconds to clock 34:21 at the Vitality 10k last Saturday, finishing sixth in a race where the front three were all professionals.

Charlie Sandison ran a superb 30:24 to take 12th in the men's race and move to eighth on the club's all-time rankings.

Rhys Boorman continued his good recent form at this weekend's Hastings Half Marathon, finishing in 71:32 for second on the extremely hilly course -- his fastest in eleven appearances at the event by 21 seconds.
