THE Akbay Kalikasan for Environmental Society Management Inc. (Akesmi) recently launched a multi-sectoral river cleanup drive project in Bacao I, General Trias City, Cavite.
Dubbed as "Linis-Ilog at Rio Grande," the project aims to promote environmental conservation, sustainability, climate resilience and disaster risk reduction through community participation.
"We are thankful to General Trias City Mayor Jon-Jon Ferrer and Cenro (Community Environment and Natural Resources Office) for supporting the launching of the coastal and river cleanup drive in Barangay Bacao I," said Julio Castillo Jr., Akesmi president and chairman
"We hope to replicate this in other communities in Cavite province."
Candidates of the Rajah At Prinsesa Kalikasan Cavite 2025 and other volunteers also participated in the cleanup drive.

"Despite the destructive effects of climate change like the floods we are already experiencing, now is the best time to unite," Castillo said.
"It is never too late to join hands to save our planet."

Akesmi recently signed partnership agreements with the CDC-Army Reserve Command, Lyceum of the Philippines-Cavite, Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Maragondon and Cavite Varsitarians-PK II to promote government environmental programs aligned with the protection, conservation and management of the country's environment and natural resources.
"Akbay Kalikasan-Akesmi will always welcome those who want to give their time and resources to participate and collaborate with our environmental programs," Castillo added.
"The coastal and river cleanup campaign is an important step in its environmental efforts to create awareness on pollution prevention -- improving water quality and flood control through various strategies like community cooperation, public education and stakeholder's participation."
