Yankees Urged To Swing Blockbuster Trade For $38M Juan Soto Backup Plan

The New York Yankees won't want to waste any time in pivoting to a Juan Soto backup plan. After Soto landed with the Mets, the rumors of the Yankees being interested in outfielders began to flow in. The Bronx Bombers could look to sign one of the top free agent outfielders or they could try to swing a trade for one.

FanSided's Jacob Mountz has recently urged the Yankees to attempt a blockbuster trade for Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki as an emergency backup plan for Soto.

"Seiya Suzuki has been placed on the trading block by the Chicago Cubs who are motivated sellers. This past year, Suzuki slashed .283/.366/.482/.848 with 21 home runs through 512 at-bats after battling an oblique injury that caused his numbers to suffer for a brief stretch. Suzuki's .848 OPS ranked him 18th in that stat, topping free agent stars such as Santander, Teoscar Hernandez, and Jurickson Profar," Mountz wrote. "Suzuki is owed $19 million per season for the next two seasons before hitting the open market."

Suzuki is definitely an interesting option. The Cubs would likely be willing to eat a good chunk of his contract to move him off the roster. It likely wouldn't take a crazy prospect haul in return for him either. It would be the best of both worlds for the Yankees as he could be cheap monetarily and in the deal.

It's not the mega-move that Yankees fans would want, but it would likely be a smaller move in an offseason filled with plenty of transactions. Suzuki, in this scenario, wouldn't be the crowned jewel of the Yankees offseason.
