Ally McCoist predicts who's more likely to win the Champions League out of Liverpool and Arsenal

Liverpool are undoubtedly the team to beat in the Premier League and Champions League this season.

The Reds have spent well over £400million on bringing new players to Anfield this summer, with Arne Slot looking to improve his ranks as much as possible.

Indeed, the Merseyside outfit did win the Premier League title last season, but since the likes of Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott have been moved on, it was clear that they needed to sign some replacements.

And, even though Liverpool were one of the most dominant teams in the Premier League last season, some cracks started to show towards the end of their campaign, which is why the Dutchman has massively altered his first-team squad.

One of the main measures of success in football is how many trophies a team wins.

Last season, Liverpool managed to secure the Premier League title, and although they were eliminated in the Champions League Round of 16, it was the eventual winners, PSG, who triumphed over the Anfield outfit.

So, with this in mind, their early bowing out of the competition isn't all that embarrassing.

However, while speaking to TNT Sports, Ally McCoist shared that he doesn't believe the Reds will win the Champions League trophy this season either.

"Liverpool were fantastic last year and deserved league winners, but I just think Arsenal defensively might be better," he said.

"The one thing Arsenal do better than most is defend and that is why I think they might be a better option [to win the Champions League.]

"And there is nobody who complained more about Arsenal not having a centre-forward than me, and they have one now."

As McCoist mentioned, one of the main things that held Arsenal back last term is that they didn't have a regular-scoring number nine.

Indeed, you could say the same about Liverpool, but since Mohamed Salah was in the form of his career last term, the Reds didn't really feel the impact of not having a regular-scoring striker.

Of course, both Cody Gakpo and Diaz also chipped in with the odd goal and assists here and there, but with Slot now having both Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak among his ranks, things are likely to improve this term.

However, these new additions didn't stop journalist Julien Laurens from also predicting that Arsenal will win the Champions League title this term.

"They pushed PSG for the first 20 minutes in the second leg like I have rarely seen a team playing at the Parc des Princes," he said to TNT Sports.

"I think defensively, they are the most solid. They have even more control with Zubimendi in there, and if Gyokeres starts scoring and they don't have injuries to key players, I think they can go really far.

"To me, they are the most 'cup team' of all the English teams, and that is why I think they will go the furthest."

At the moment, it's anyone's guess what could happen, but judging by the predictions from McCoist and Laurens, it seems like Liverpool have a lot to prove to the footballing world this season.
