Beloved Gogglebox stars 'not asked back' after five new families sign up - Daily Record

Gogglebox made its grand return on Friday night and viewers have been introduced to five fresh families, which includes two new Scottish duos. In a major cast overhaul, Channel 4 has given fans a sneak peek at the brand new sofa critics who will be joining the already established fan favourites such as the Siddiquis, Jenny and Lee, the Malones and Giles and Mary.

In a surprise twist, the show has revealed unexpected changes for series 26 following Scots couple Joe and Roisin's announcement that they had "not been asked back" for the next series, despite being on the show for three and a half years. Confirming their shock departure, Joe and Roisin released a joint statement on Instagram in July.

They wrote: "After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa, Channel 4 have decided it's time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26. Therefore, we are leaving the Gogglebox family.

"We couldn't be more grateful to Studio Lambert for the opportunity. The experience has actually been so mad, and we will miss watching TV with you all on Friday nights!

"It's been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don't actually need subtitles."

Joe and Roisin concluded by saying they had "made friends for life" during their Gogglebox journey and would miss the cast and crew "immensely", stating: "Time to watch TV in silence for a bit and put down the popcorn."

Amongst the replies, numerous fans hit out at Channel 4 for making such an "insane" decision as they expressed how "gutted" they were to see the Scots duo leave..

In the months following their confirmed departure, Roisin changed her Instagram biography to: "Brutally axed from Gogglebox".

Gogglebox is now set to welcome a fresh batch of armchair critics from across the country with two new Scottish families in the mix.

Sisters Suzie, 70, and Rosie, 68 from Edinburgh and best mates Callum, 31, and Jake, 27, from Glasgow are now representing Scotland on the Channel 4 show.

The other families joining the new cast are the Gordon's from Surrey made up of Andre, 49, Sarah 47, and their daughter Chee, 25, as well as married duo Andrew, 62, and Alfie, 32 from The Cotswolds and mother and daughter in law duo, Sara, 87, and Lara, 58.

Speaking about the cast reshuffle, Mike Cotton, the Creative Director of Gogglebox production firm, Studio Lambert, commented: " "We're thrilled to welcome some new households to the Gogglebox family. Along with our much-loved returning cast, we can't wait to join them in their living rooms and hear their candid thoughts on this week's most talked about TV "

Gogglebox fan favourites including David and Shirley Griffiths, Pete and Sophie Sandiford, Ellie and Izzi Warner, the Plummer family, Worthington family and Abbie Lynn and Georgia Bell all made their return to TV screens on Friday.
