Here's how Wisconsin track and field athletes fared on day 1 of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships

Former Wisconsin men's basketball guard John Tonje was a star in the shooting drills on the first day of the NBA Draft Combine.

The University of Wisconsin men's and women's track and field teams showcased some of their throwing prowess on the first day of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Friday in Eugene, Oregon.

Chloe Lindeman led the way on the day, placing third in the hammer throw with a toss of 222 feet, 9 inches. The mark came on her sixth and final attempt of the day. It broke the Badgers' outdoor record in the event, which she previously held.

Minnesota's Anthonett Nabwe won the title with a meet record of 229-2.

Cole Hooper's best throw was his third of six in the hammer.

His mark of 216-11 was good for fifth in Badgers' outdoor history and earned him eighth in the conference.

Minnesota's Kostas Zaltos won the title with a toss of 254-10.

Decathlon

Quinn Lansil had a tough start to the men's decathlon, placing last of the 16 runners in the 100 meters with a time of 11.42 seconds. He took 15th in the long jump, reaching 20-7.

Lansil started to make up some ground in the shot put with a mark of 43-6 ½ to take sixth place, but didn't record a score in the high jump. He also didn't finish the 400, and sat in 15th of the 16 athletes after the first day.

The second day of competition was set to begin with the 110 hurdles on Saturday. It was unclear whether Lansil would be able to participate.

Heptathlon

Three of the 20 heptathletes in the competition represent the Badgers.

Maddie Hogan had the best time in the 100 of the trio, placing 12th in 14.24. She was followed by Kyla Saleh (14.62) and Shaina Zinter (14.66) in 15th and 16th, respectively.

Saleh led the team in the high jump, reaching 5-10 to take first in the event. It was a personal best for her.

Hogan's 5-4¼ was good for 12th, while Zinter took 16th with 5-1¾.

The three were right in step in the shot put, with Saleh, Zinter and Hogan placing 13th, 14th and 15th with marks of 37-11½, 37-9½ and 36-0¼, respectively.

Zinter's 11th-place time of 25.21 in the 200 was the best of the three, as Hogan took 16th in 25.55 and Saleh finished 20th with a time of 26.55.

Saleh sat in 11th place overall with a score of 3,228, trailing Oregon's Annika Williams at 3,635. Hogan (3147) and Zinter (3,085) held the 14th and 16th spots, respectively.

The long jump was set to kick off day 2.

Men's 1500 day 1

Adam Spencer was second in his heat, as his 3:42.39 time in the 1500 trailed Rheinhardt Harrison of Oregon, who clocked 3:42.27. However, maybe that heat was the best, as the pair placed first and second, respectively, of all the runners in the event's first day.

Liam Newhart joined Spencer in qualifying for the second day with a time of 3:43.19 to take fifth overall. The pair will run in the final on Sunday.

Archie Noakes clocked 3:48.59, which was the 19th-best time and not enough to qualify.

Women's 1500 day 1

Mya Bunke placed 18th of 35 runners in the 1500 with a time of 4:24.35. It was not enough to qualify for a top-12 spot.

Kylie Finger's 4:32.93 put her in 29th place.

Men's javelin throw

Jacob Zednik had a bit of a disappointing performance by his standards, having won a few javelin throw events in the regular season.

He reached 224-5 in his second throw, several inches behind his personal best of 231-3 earlier in the spring, and couldn't get any more in the next of his four attempts.

His mark was good enough for seventh place.

Men's 10000

Bob Liking looked like he was in contention to win a conference title in the 10000 through most of the race. He sped out to first place at the 5600 mark, and held either the first or second spot until the 9600 mark.

However, he couldn't keep up in the final lap with the top runners, finishing with a time of 29:28.20 to finish ninth. Washington's Evan Jenkins ran a 29:24.48, including a 58.70 mark in the final 400, to win. Liking's final lap time was 1:02.98.

Johnny Livingstone (29:32.79) and Micah Wilson (29:54.31) placed 11th and 15th, respectively.

Women's 10000

The Badgers boasted a pair of top-10 finishers in the women's 10000 to end the day.

Leane Willemse placed sixth with a time of 33:28.72, while Bella Jacobsen took eighth at 33:34.26.

Annika Cutforth and Shea Ruhly did not finish.
