Town of Marcellus, N.Y. -- A person suffered smoke inhalation in a garage fire in Marcellus Wednesday that firefighters say may have been started by electric car.
At 5:59 a.m. the Marcellus Fire Department responded to a home at 2872 Falls Road in the Town of Marcellus, according to dispatches from the Onondaga County 911 Center.
The garage that was on fire collapsed shortly after firefighters arrived, said Ken Leev, a firefighter for the Marcellus Fire Department.
In initial calls it was reported that two people were trapped but they managed to make it out, he said.
Two ambulances were called to the scene and one person was treated for smoke inhalation, Leev said. He did not know if the two people were hospitalized.
It took 20 minutes to extinguish the fire, he said. It may have been caused by an electric car parked in the garage, he said.
The bulk of the fire was in the garage but it did extend into the home's attic. Fire investigators were examining the rest of the home, he said.
