Nick Woltemade continued his impressive start to life at Newcastle United as he scored during their 2-0 win against Tottenham on Wednesday.
Woltemade, 23, bagged his SIXTH goal in 11 appearances as the Magpies progressed through to the Carabao Cup quarter-final for the fourth successive season.
Fabian Schar put Eddie Howe's side in front in the first half before Woltemade headed home just after the interval to give the Magpies a two-goal cushion and seal a comfortable win.
After signing for Newcastle in a £69million deal from Stuttgart in August, it felt as though a lot of pressure was put on Woltemade to replace the void left by Alexander Isak. But the German has been at St James' Park for two months, and it doesn't feel like the Magpies have missed the now-Liverpool forward at all.
Indeed, Woltemade's impact has been noticeable, even if Bayern Munich continue to be hammering him for his price tag. Last month, Bayern legend and board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that Newcastle overpaid for the ex-Werder Bremen man, after the Bundesliga champions failed to sign him in the summer transfer window.
"I'll be honest: When this story with Woltemade and then the demand from Stuttgart came up, I, as well as Uli, Herbert Hainer, Jan Dreesen, and Max Eberl, said - folks, we're slowly getting to a level that I simply don't find acceptable anymore," Rummenigge told the BR programme 'Blickpunkt Sport'.
"We shouldn't fulfill every demand to make someone happy, especially the financiers at VfB Stuttgart. I can only congratulate those in Stuttgart for finding - I'll use quotation marks here - an idiot who paid that much money. Because we certainly wouldn't have done that in Munich."
Despite this, Woltemade continues to be proving Rummenigge wrong. Due to his goalscoring form for Newcastle and Stuttgart during the second half of last season, his market value has risen from just £6.95m to £56.49m since the start of 2025, the third biggest margin in world football, according to SportingPedia.
Although Bayern have an in-form Harry Kane and Nicolas Jackson as their No.9 options right now, Woltemade would no doubt have added a different dimension to their attack this season.
Assessing Woltemade's performance against Tottenham and his impact in a Newcastle shirt, Les Ferdinand praised him post-match. "They needed to bring a centre forward in, they have done that," Ferdinand told ITV.
"What is pleasing to see is that normally managers would rest players like this in a game like this, but Eddie has gone, 'no leave him in the team'.
"From a centre forwards point of view that is great to see, because so many times you seem them scoring goals... you get to a game like this and the manager says, 'no leave him in there and let him score."
Howe commented on Woltemade in his post-match interview and fired a warning at his rivals that the Germany international "can only get better" from this point on.
"Delighted that everyone has taken to him, his personality, what he brings to the team, really important goal for him and the team today," Howe told ITV. "We needed that second one and I thought he played well, he linked play really well. We're still finding the best ways to use him and his game can only get better from here."
