AUSA 2025: ARX Robotics' Combat Gereon UGV teams with Dedrone Defender 2 for counter-drone missions

The Gereon family is built for payload agility rather than a single mission lane. Company and industry reporting place its maximum payload at roughly 500 kilograms, with open-architecture interfaces and tool-free swaps that let units move from logistics carriage to armed overwatch in minutes. Early demonstrations and interviews highlight integration with remote weapon stations in 5.56 and 7.62 calibers, underscoring the platform's electrical and mechanical headroom for stabilized turrets as well as sensors. Speed and endurance figures vary by configuration, but public data points to a top speed near 30 kilometers per hour and a range of around 40 kilometers on a charge, which is adequate for base defense perimeters, convoy shadowing and short-duration forward tasks.

At the basis sits Mithra, ARX's operating system for robotic control and fleet orchestration, which allows the Gereon to act as a node in a larger ground autonomy network. That framework matters for a counter-UAS role because it fuses sensors, navigation data and effectors across multiple robots or vehicles, letting operators hand off tasks and keep the jammer on the most advantageous axis of approach. The RENK partnership announced this summer is about industrial scale and software-defined mobility, giving U.S. customers a path to production at home and a roadmap for deeper autonomy over time.

Dedrone's Defender 2 brings selective jamming and cueing from the company's wider ecosystem. The device is a smart, cloud-enabled narrowband disruptor that works with DedroneTracker.AI and the firm's On-The-Move integration for vehicle mounts, enabling precision effects against single drones or swarms while limiting spillover into friendly communications. it would allow an engagement of drones at several hundred meters, including targets that are no longer visible to the naked eye, an important feature when dealing with low-contrast FPV threats. On a stabilized pan-tilt unit atop Gereon, that translates into a mobile RF denial bubble that can be pushed ahead of a formation or parked to protect a refuel point.

The Gereon-Defender 2 pairing offers commanders a low-signature counter-UAS scout with real utility at the company level. The robot's tracked mobility and compact dimensions let it crawl into dead space, hold rooftops or berms, and establish a forward anti-drone screen without exposing soldiers. Because payloads are modular, a unit can combine jamming with day-night cameras or a lightweight RWS for point defense, then reconfigure for resupply or casualty extraction after contact. In convoy security, one or two Gereons can bracket lead and trail vehicles to defeat spotter quadcopters before an ambush, while the autonomy stack keeps operators under armor and off the road.

Drone saturation from Ukraine to the Middle East has tilted the cost curve in favor of cheap, lethal quadcopters and FPV munitions, forcing NATO armies to push counter-UAS down to the lowest echelons. ARX says the Combat Gereon's design was shaped by Ukrainian frontline feedback, and Western primes are racing to bottle that experience for mass production. With RENK providing U.S. manufacturing depth and Dedrone already embedded across government airspace-security programs, a domestically produced, exportable counter-UAS UGV aligns with Washington's push for resilient, scalable defense supply chains and with allied efforts to harden maneuver brigades against the drone threat.
