Larissa Godkin Feramisco threw her way into the record books as a Carpinteria High Warrior and a University of Redlands Bulldog in the late 1990s, collecting plenty of championships along the way.
After excelling in both the discus and shot put in Carpinteria, Godkin Feramisco made a name for herself at Redlands in the hammer throw, while remaining a star in the discus and shot put.
She shined on the brightest of stages as a Bulldog, capturing an NCAA Division 3 national championship in the hammer throw in 1998. She was an All-American in the event in both '98 and '99.
Godkin Feramisco dominated in conference action as well, earning All-SCIAC honors in the hammer throw, discus and shot put in '97, '98, '99 and 2000.
She was inducted into the Redlands Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007 and remains the school record holder in the hammer throw at 169'7", is third in the shot put at 39'9" and fifth in the discus at 134'5".
Along with her athletic achievements, she majored in liberal studies and received her teaching credential from Redlands. She earned a Master's of Education from Azusa Pacific University.
Before her time in college, Godkin Feramisco filled up her trophy case as a Carpinteria High Warrior. Her biggest victories came in the discus, where she was a CIF champion in '94 and '96.
"My proudest athletic achievement is coming back to win the CIF championship in discus my senior year after letting my nerves get the best of me my junior year," Godkin Feramisco said.
She was also a three-time Tri-Valley League champion in the discus ('94, '95, '96) and earned a pair of league titles in the shot put ('95, '96).
The Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table named her the Female Track & Field Athlete of the Year in 1996, the same year that she captured the county championship in discus.
Her individual success helped propel Carpinteria High track & field to new heights, as the Warrior girls won four straight league titles during her career, a feat that had never been accomplished in school history.
To add to her already-impressive Warrior resume as a track & field athlete, Godkin Feramisco spent her winters lacing up her shoes for the Carpinteria High girls basketball team. She was a two-time All-Tri-Valley League member for her strong play on the hardwood.
"I would like to acknowledge my amazing high school coaches, Van Latham and Micheline Sheaffer White," Godkin Feramisco said. "I was so fortunate to be a part of a top-notch track program and have the best coaches anyone could hope for.
"Micheline was a huge inspiration to me, and I feel so lucky she was my coach for three of my high school seasons."
