Walmart+ adds Peacock to its membership. See when the service begins.

Walmart+ adds Peacock to its membership. See when the service begins.

To celebrate its fifth anniversary, Walmart+ will introduce a new "video streaming choice" for members in mid-September.

According to Walmart, the enhanced benefit gives Walmart+ members greater control over their entertainment experience by offering access to Peacock in addition to Paramount+, a perk available to Walmart+ members since Sept. 2022.

"Beginning on Sept. 15, Walmart+ members will be able to choose between the ad-supported plans of Peacock and Paramount+ at no additional cost, further enhancing the value and flexibility of their membership," Walmart said in a news release. Walmart+ members will also be able to switch between the two services every 90 days.

"This added level of flexibility is designed to cater to members' diverse entertainment needs, placing Walmart+ in a league of its own as a dynamic, member-focused subscription service," Walmart said in the release.

Here's what to know about the perk.

Only Walmart+ members can take advantage of the new perk, which includes access to an "array of premium entertainment" available across Paramount+ Essential and Peacock Premium.

With Paramount+ Essential, Walmart+ members have access to a selection of championship sports, iconic franchises, popular movies, and hit original series, such as "NCIS: Tony & Ziva," "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," "Landman," and "Tulsa King."

Peacock Premium's no different, offering access to live sports, blockbuster films, reality TV favorites, next-day access to NBC and Bravo programming, and Spanish-language content such as the Telemundo Hub.

The total cost of a Walmart+ subscription varies, with prospective members able to pay $98 annually, or $8.17 a month after a free 30-day trial. Those on government assistance can get a Walmart+ subscription for half the price.

The announcement comes as the Arkansas-based company challenges Amazon, which offers a subscription-based delivery service, Amazon Prime, and a streaming service, Prime Video.

The tech juggernaut also offers access to a range of other streaming services, including HBO Max, Starz, Paramount+, Apple TV+, and Peacock. Additional add-ons include Amazon Music Unlimited and Amazon Photos.
