The Colorado Rockies selected the contract of first baseman Keston Hiura on Saturday.
Hiura, 28, signed with the Tigers at the start of spring training in 2024 after spending his entire career in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
His first stint in the big leagues since 2022 didn't go well. Hiura was 4-for-27 with no extra-base hits and 10 strikeouts in 10 games with the Angels before being DFA'd.
Hiura signed a minor-league deal with the Rockies before this season and had nine home runs in 200 plate appearances for Triple-A Albuquerque before his call-up.
Hiura was drafted in the first round (9th overall) out of UC-Irvine in 2017 and was a consensus top-20 prospect going into the 2019 season. He had an impressive rookie campaign with the Brewers, hitting 19 home runs in 348 plate appearances, but struggled to reach the same heights in subsequent seasons.
