WARREN, Mich. - A Wayne County man was arrested and is facing federal charges for his alleged plot to conduct a mass shooting at a military base in Metro Detroit.
Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, 19, served in the Michigan Army National Guard in September 2022 and was discharged in December 2024.
According to court documents, Said told two undercover FBI agents about his plan to conduct a mass shooting at the U.S. Army's Tank Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM) at the Detroit Arsenal in Warren on behalf of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS).
The two undercover agents indicated to Said that they intended to carry out his plan at the direction of ISIS. Said then allegedly provided materials to help with the attack, including armor-piercing ammunition and magazines. He also allegedly flew his drone over TACOM to map out the attack and trained the undercover agents on firearms and the construction of Molotov cocktails.
Said was arrested on the day of the scheduled attack, which was set for May 13, 2025, after he traveled near TACOM and launched his drone in support of the alleged attack plan.
He was charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and distributing information related to a destructive device.
If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison for each count.
