Michelle Williams opens fan mail, discovers it's meant for 'Greatest Showman' star Michelle Williams

The singer Michelle Williams shared footage of herself opening a piece of fan mail from Germany this week in which the writer had clearly conflated the two. Still, she somehow managed to read the letter with a straight face in the video below:

"Dear Michelle Williams, I hope this letter finds you in great spirits. My name is Phillip and I have been an avid fan of your incredible performances in both film and theater," it began. "Your work in movies like Blue Valentine, Manchester by the Sea, [and] The Greatest Showman has deeply moved me."

The fan praised her "exceptional talent" and asked for her to sign a few photos that he had sent. Yes, it was the former star of Dawson's Creek in the images. Oops. But the "Say My Name" singer only observed that the other Michelle Williams had "fabulous" hair.

"I wish you all the best and much success with your current production of Death Becomes Her at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre," Williams read from the letter. "I am sure that your captivating performance will leave a lasting impression on the audience."

She acknowledged that she hoped for that, too.

"Thank you, Phillip," Williams said. "Thank you so much. Absolutely brilliant."

She said her name twin is aware of such situations.

"So, yes, Michelle knows what's going on as well, and I cannot wait to see her, hopefully sooner than later," Williams said. "It's being worked out."

Before she signed off, Williams assured viewers that she does "get a lot of fan mail that is actually addressed to me. This Michelle Williams. I just wanna acknowledge that."

Two of those fans are the other two former members of Destiny's Child, Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland, who supported her in person on the musicals' opening night in November. Actress Isabella Rossellini, whose role in the 1992 film inspired the one that Williams plays onstage, has also come to visit her.
