MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) -- Aquidneck Island's pickleball enthusiasts will soon have a brand new place to play.
Newport Pickleball Club is set to open Dec. 26 off of West Main Road, where the old Island Cinemas used to be.
The new indoor and outdoor entertainment hub will feature 11 pickleball courts and a private event space, as well as a restaurant, sports bar and lounge.
The restaurant, which will offer a variety of dishes, snacks and shareables, is slated to open in February 2025.
There will also be daily programming, such as leagues, tournaments and lessons, for both competitive and recreational players alike.
Newport Pickleball Club founders John Theberge and Chuck Irving believe the new facility will be a "game-changer" for pickleball enthusiasts.
"Our goal is to amplify all the things that have made pickleball capture the hearts and minds of people of all ages and abilities," Theberge said. "It's fun. It's active. It's social. It opens doors to a new community and enhances established ones."
"We sincerely hope this will be a treasured addition to the greater-Newport residents and visitors," he continued.
Newport Pickleball Club is open to the public, but also offers memberships. Anyone interested in securing an individual or family membership can do so online.
