It's been years in the making, but the first moves on the Warhammer 40,000 passion project from Henry Cavill have been made, with the news from Deadline that a TV series is now in development at Amazon MGM Studios.

While there is currently no showrunner, it is known that Cavill will star in and executive produce the series, and what Deadline is calling a "mini-room" has been set up to discuss the direction the series will take.

Cavill took to Instagram to celebrate the news, saying, "My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world."

Set 40,000 years in the future, Warhammer 40,000 sees humanity stand at war across the galaxy, fighting to maintain the imperium of mankind.

The actor shared a photo of himself outside of a place called The Little Shop, saying, "To celebrate some Warhammer news, I decided to make a pilgrimage to the very first place I bought Warhammer models over 30 years ago....the Little Shop, on my home island of Jersey!"

While it'll likely be a while before we get any further news about the series, it's good to know that moves have been madeon the project Cavill has cherished for decades - even if he says that, for now, it's all secret.

"Together, we've been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts," Cavill says, "Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret. Watch this space, though -- more to come in time!"
