Nine held in murder, police attack probe

IPOH: Nine people were remanded for seven days to facilitate investigation into the case in which a woman's body was found in a car and a policeman was stabbed and shot in Simpang Pulai here.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the nine, consisting of eight men and a woman, were nabbed here and in Kuala Lumpur between Sunday and 8am yesterday.

"The individuals, aged between 30 and 67, will be remanded from Sept 8 until 14.

"They were arrested for the case in which a dead woman was found in a car and an attempted murder of a policeman on Sept 7," he said in a statement yesterday.

A 26-year-old police constable was shot with his own gun and stabbed during a scuffle with an individual in the 1.15am incident on Sunday.

Before the incident, a police patrol team had spotted a suspicious car in Taman Desa Pakatan, but it sped off, resulting in a car chase. The car stopped near an oil palm plantation, where the struggle with the individual took place.

The suspect managed to escape, with a manhunt carried out to nab him.

A post-mortem on the victim found the cause of death to be asphyxia-related (when the body is deprived of oxygen, causing unconsciousness or death, i.e. suffocation).

The case is being investigated under Sections 302/307 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act for discharging a firearm with intent to cause death or hurt.
