LITCHFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) - Emergency crews responded to a fire in Litchfield on Friday night.

Shortly before 9 p.m., firefighters were called to the area of meadow street after a report of a structure fire.

Crews struck a second-alarm after finding heavy smoke inside of the home but they weren't able to see any signs of a fire.

A thermal imaging camera was used to locate the fire underneath the floorboards on the second floor.

The fire was quickly extinguished and overhaul commenced.

Officials told us the homeowner was out of the house when they arrived along with their dog, who was unresponsive.

Crews used CPR to resuscitate the dog, and he was transported to a nearby veterinary center.

Then, firefighters located the owner's cat inside the home, healthy.

The Litchfield Fire Marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.

No further details were released.
