A motorist drove through a roadway closure Saturday and collided with a California Highway Patrol vehicle, injuring several CHP officers, according to the agency.

CHP reported its Bakersfield-area units were setting up a DUI checkpoint in the closed area of Calloway Drive north of Slikker Drive at about 8:05 p.m. Saturday. During this process, CHP said, the driver of a 2023 Lexus RX350 drove through the roadway northbound on Calloway at an unknown speed before striking the rear of a CHP patrol vehicle.
