Severe thunderstorms possible in Maine on Saturday; Cool down expected next week

PORTLAND (WGME) -- Early Friday morning will begin with showers, clouds, and some fog just around sunrise.

The rest of the day looks nicer, with sunshine and warm temperatures before our next weather warn on Saturday.

Friday will be an 8 on Santom's Sky Scale due to muggy and breezy conditions. There is a chance for an afternoon passing shower, but most will stay dry.

More than 50% of Maine is also currently experiencing a severe drought.

We are 5 inches of precipitation below of where we should be right now in the Portland area. Some spots may be worse.

As we approach the weekend, showers and thunderstorms reenter the forecast.

You'll also notice the high humidity levels beginning on Friday, which will only increase on Saturday.

Fog will start the day on Saturday before burning off to some sun.

The major weather story will be the passing strong cold front late in the day into the overnight hours.

Showers and possible some severe thunderstorms will begin to pop up in the late afternoon through the evening.

Some may become severe with damaging wind the primary threat.

There is some uncertainty about how long showers will linger into Sunday.

As for how much rain, over an inch expected across the I-95 corridor.

There will be some clearing throughout the day. Next week looks cool and bright.
