When might the Buccaneers see Tristan Wirfs and Chris Godwin Jr. return?

With the regular season just around the corner, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are starting to get healthier at key positions. Both Tristan Wirfs and Chris Godwin Jr. were officially activated from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list earlier this week, making them eligible to return to game action at any time.

Though neither is expected to suit up in Week 1, signs are pointing toward early-season reinforcements for the Bucs' offense. Wirfs, recovering from offseason knee surgery, was seen walking without crutches and moving well during last week's preseason game at Raymond James Stadium, a strong sign that his recovery is on track.

Given that progress, Week 3 against the New York Jets appears to be a realistic target for the Pro Bowl left tackle's return. That would give him a few more weeks of practice to regain strength and conditioning while not forcing a rushed return early in the year.

Godwin Jr., who is recovering from a dislocated ankle, is expected to take a slightly more cautious approach. While he's also eligible to play immediately, the nature of his injury and his importance in the receiving game likely warrant a longer ramp-up period. A Week 4 return against the Philadelphia Eagles looks like a smart and strategic goal for both the player and team.

The Buccaneers won't rush either player back, but having them active and working toward a return is a major boost. With both stars trending in the right direction, Tampa Bay could have two of its most important offensive weapons back on the field by October.
