The Government Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA) volleyball season continued on Wednesday at the C.I. Gibson Gymnasium.
In the senior girls' division, the C.C. Sweeting Cobras took down the Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves, two sets to none. They prevailed, 25-14 and 25-21.
The Cobras had the advantage early, and never eased up, sealing the straight sets win.
Cobras' team captain Jeneice Bethel was thrilled to see her team pull off a comfortable victory against the Timberwolves.
"It really feels good because we have been through a lot, and we have been practicing a lot," she said. "Even though we would make several mistakes, we would not let the team get down, we just kept them motivated and kept pushing."
In the senior boys' division, the Timberwolves took down the Cobras two sets to none. They won, 25-23 and 25-12.
It was a close battle in the opening set, but Anatol Rodgers held on down the stretch. They cemented the victory with a dominant triumph in set two.
Timberwolves' Head Coach Theodore Hanna said it felt good to get the win.
"This was a very good victory for us," he said. "We had some goals that we wanted to accomplish. We are behind two games (on the schedule), but we definitely wanted to win this one in progression toward getting to 5-0 (win/loss record) so that we could set up for a good position in the playoffs. That is what we wanted to win this one for. C.C. Sweeting is a very good team and coached very well so they fought us tooth and nail."
He spoke about the team's strategy against the Cobras.
"They have a good jump server, and he is also a good hitter so we said that we wanted to come out pretty big at the net and force them into some errors. That worked out for us," said Hanna.
Over at the A.F. Adderley Gymnasium, the R.M. Bailey Pacers faced the C.I. Gibson Rattlers.
The Rattlers' senior boys won in back-to-back sets, 25-6 and 25-4.
The senior girls were also in top form, knocking off the Lady Pacers 25-12 and 25-10.
At the D.W. Davis Gymnasium, the Doris Johnson Mystic Marlins and the C.R. Walker Knights split victories. The Mystic Marlins' senior girls defeated the Lady Knights in consecutive sets, 25-15 and 25-19.
Meanwhile, the Knights' senior boys defeated the Mystic Marlins in three sets. They prevailed, 25-19, 10-25 and 15-13.
