NEMLA Panel - Veterans Studies - (Re)generation

Veterans Studies is a growing field of research that addresses the significant impact of military personnel and their families transitioning from active duty to civilian life with an emphasis on the veteran experience. This session invites papers that explore the many facets of military life exhibited in literature, theater, film, and poetry written by or about military veterans as well as scholarly explorations of the veteran experience.

As a multidisciplinary field, inquiry draws on the intersections of the theoretical and the applied, the creative and the performative, the normative and the empirical. Topics within veterans studies include but are not limited to combat exposure, reintegration challenges, and the complex systems and institutions that shape the "veteran experience." Closely related to military studies, veterans studies explores the transition from military to civilian life and the experience after separating from the Armed Forces.

Proposals elated to the conference theme, "(Re)generation, which invokes positivity, energy, and engagement," and those not related are encouraged. Veterans and active-duty personnel are strongly urged to participate.

Topics of particular interest include but are not limited to:

· Perceptions or conceptualizations of veteran identity

· Reintegration into civilian society

· Systems and experiences which shape veterans' post -military experiences

· Interdisciplinary approaches to veterans studies
