For Janice Olson, education isn't just a career; it's a lifelong passion. Her deep commitment to students and the North Cove Elementary community shines through every facet of her life, proving the truth of her personal mantra: "Once a Lion, Always a Lion."

Olson is a true fixture in the North Cove Elementary community. Despite officially being a retired teacher, her work is far from over.

With more than 18 years of teaching experience under her belt in McDowell County Schools, she continues to serve as a valued substitute, volunteer and tutor. Her dedication ensures she keeps coming back to North Cove Elementary to see future students succeed.

Olson's enduring positivity and enthusiasm have left an indelible mark on the lives of countless North Cove students. Whether she's filling in at a moment's notice, lending a hand with a school event or providing one-on-one tutoring, Olson brings a spirit of joy and encouragement that is infectious. Her presence is a powerful reminder of the deep, lasting connection between our alumni and the students who walk the halls today.
