Overnight road closures planned for North Maple Street Extension work

Drivers traveling along North Maple Street will face nightly road closures starting Monday, Aug. 25, as crews continue construction on the North Maple Street Extension project.

Blythe Development LLC, in partnership with the town of Summerville, announced that North Maple Street from West 5th North Street to Old Dairy Road will be shut down nightly for asphalt paving. Work will take place from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. the following morning on the following dates:

Monday, Aug. 25, through Tuesday morning, Aug. 26Tuesday, Aug. 26, through Wednesday morning, Aug. 27Wednesday, Aug. 27, through Thursday morning, Aug. 28Thursday, Aug. 28, through Friday morning, Aug. 29

Detour routes include Old Dairy Road, Hodge Road and Deming Way. Local traffic will be directed by traffic flaggers or detour signage.

"All scheduled times are approximate and dependent on the weather," officials said in a news release.

Motorists traveling near the construction areas are advised to use caution, comply with traffic control signs, follow reduced speed limits and pay attention to message board information.

About the project

The North Maple Street Extension project includes grading, drainage and paving work along S-59 (Parsons Road), S-131 (North Maple Street), S-65 (West Richardson Avenue) and U.S. 78 (West 5th North Street). It also calls for the relocation of Parsons Road, new pavement markings, signing, traffic control and street lighting along North Maple Street.

Additional work includes traffic signal installation, sewer line relocation, and railroad and utility coordination. The total estimated roadway length of the project is about 2.22 miles. Construction is expected to continue through 2025.
