At the Roxy: Blanchett and Fassbender as spies in 'Black Bag'

The Roxy Theater is screening the new spy thriller from Steven Soderbergh, starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender.

Please visit theroxytheater.org for up-to-date screen times. Scientists agree that seeing a movie in the theater is the best way to stay young forever.

Opening'Black Bag'

The second of two collaborations between director Steven Soderbergh and writer David Koepp to be released within three months, this gripping espionage drama featured two amazing performers as married spies who find their allegiances to their country, and each other, tested when one of them is suspected of being a double agent. Rated R. Stars Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender and Tom Burke. Opening Friday, March 14.

Continuing'Anora'

With five Oscar wins, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress, now is the perfect time to see this hit film from the guy who created "Greg the Bunny." Director Sean Baker, who blazed new grounds and tore our hearts apart with instant classics like "Tangerine" and "The Florida Project," returns with his new movie, the first American film to win the coveted Palme d'Or in 13 years. When a Brooklyn stripper impulsively marries the son of a vengeful Russian oligarch, the fairytale future she dreamed of ends up getting away from her. Same thing happened to my parents. Rated R. Stars Oscar winner Mikey Madison and Mark Eydelshteyn.

The 2025 Academy Award winner for Best Documentary! A Palestinian activist and an Israeli journalist work together to document the ongoing mass expulsion, deadly apartheid and bloody genocide tearing through Masafer Yatta. For some strange reason, this harrowing documentary couldn't find distribution inside the United States until it got its Oscar nomination. Weird how it works that way. Not Rated. Directed by Rachel Szor, Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham and Basel Adra.

'Mickey 17'

Bong Joon Ho, the director behind "Parasite," "Snowpiercer" and "Okja," returns with his long-awaited next feature film in which a young man volunteers to help colonize a distant ice planet. Too bad he didn't read the fine print, because now, whenever he dies (and he dies often), a new body is created with all of his memories intact. See, this is exactly why we need unions. Rated R. Stars Robert Pattinson, Steven Yuen and Mark Ruffalo. What a filmography the director has. I really love all the Bong hits.

Special screenings'The Invisible Shield Episode 3'

Missoula Public Health presents a free monthly screening series about the history of public health. From crosswalks to vaccines, see how society works to take care of everyone. A panel discussion follows the screening of each of the four episodes. Not Rated. Directed by Jason Kliot and Taimi Arvidson. Playing Thursday, March 13.

Met Opera Live: 'Fidelio'

Stage on Screen brings the greatest contemporary theatrical performances to the Roxy's silver screen. This month, soprano Lise Davidsen stars in Beethoven's first (and only) opera as a woman willing to risk everything to save her husband from the clutches of tyranny. Playing Saturday, March 15 and Monday, March 24.

'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' (1998)

We can't stop here. This is bat country. Hunter S. Thompson's gonzo novel broke through on the big screen in Terry Gilliam's surreal and sordid film adaptation. An unstable journalist and his attorney descend on Las Vegas to find the American Dream. Hey, if the American Dream is doing as many drugs as humanly possible, then it sounds like they're living the American Dream from the first frame of the movie. Rated R. Stars Johnny Depp, Benicio Del Toro and Penn Jillette. Playing Saturday, March 15.

'Detour' (1945)

Of all the excellent films we're showing this month as part of Roxy Confidential, for my money, the best film noir of all time is this Poverty Row thriller from "Black Cat" director Edgar G. Ulmer. When a penniless piano player accidentally kills a man who offered him a ride, the musician adopts the deceased's identity, causing things to further spiral out of control. Not Rated. Stars Tom Neal (whose life after this film became a noir tale of its own) and Ann Savage as the femme fatale all others are compared to. Playing Sunday, March 16 and Wednesday, March 19.

'The Color of Pomegranates' (1969)

I hate to spoil it for you, but they are clearly a shade of deep red. Considered one of the greatest films of all time, this Soviet-era Armenian film serves as an experimental biography of poet Sayat-Nova. A truly revolutionary film, this magic and complex marriage of movement, imagination and reality absolutely must be seen on the big screen. Not Rated. Stars Sofiko Chiaureli, Vilen Galstyan and Spartak Bagashvili. Playing Tuesday, March 18 as part of Cinema Abroad.

'Rumble in the Bronx' (1995)

Jackie Chan, already an action star for over a decade in his native Hong Kong, had his breakthrough in the United States with this martial arts, beat 'em up comedy. When a Hong Kong police officer travels to New York (surrounded as always by the stunning and beautiful mountain ranges that NYC is so famous for) he finds himself at odds with a deadly street gang. Rated R. Also stars Anita Mui and Garvin Cross. Playing Thursday, March 20 as part of Extremely Extreme: Knockout Cinema.
