Sport, music and politics are the events that have kept Brits asking questions in 2024.

Google has revealed the most searched topics and questions for the UK for the year, which has shown we are a nation of sport fans.

The tech company released its annual year in search data, which revealed the topics most searched for by Britons in the past 12 months.

Top of the trending list for the most searched general term was the Euros - where England's men's team reached the final before losing to Italy.

In second place was Liam Payne following the star's death in Argentina and in third spot was Jay Slater, whose body was found some days after he went missing while on holiday in Tenerife.

Darts star Luke Littler topped the trending athletes list and was followed by Jude Bellingham and Simone Biles. Littler also ranked third in the category of the most searched people.

Other categories included in the data were film and TV, and questions starting including "how to..." and "when is..."

UK and US politics featured high on the list of topics Brits wanted to know more about, hardly surprising as 2024 has been an election year for both countries.

In the music world, the Oasis reunion topped the music questions owing to fans desperate to get their hands on tickets.

Matt Cooke of the Google News Initiative said: "2024 has been a year of comebacks, curiosity and community. Whether it's fans reuniting for Oasis, young sports stars like Luke Littler making waves or Brits voting in everything from elections to Eurovision, these searches show a nation full of passion and interest."
