Another high scoring extravaganza ended with the capital city club leaders gaining a closely contested five tries to four win at the Arms Park.
Last year, a wonderfully entertaining and exciting game produced 14 tries and 91 points in Llandovery's 48-43 victory and spectators again had full value for their money.
Llandovery made 10 changes- one positional - from the side that had beaten Bridgend 35-17 and had no fewer than 10 contracted Scarlets in the 23-man squad, testimony to the close-knit relationship between region and feeder club.
But Cardiff - themselves with a clutch of Blues - were to prove the stronger and more fluent on the day and they climb into third spot in the SRC table, behind Ebbw Vale - 28-0 winners over Swansea - and Llandovery.
Sharper and more physical in the contact area, where flanker Nathan Hudd was omnipresent and more efficient at the line out, they posted notice that they will be hard to beat for the rest of the season.
It was a special day for hooker Alun Rees who celebrated his 100th game for Cardiff with a try against one of his former clubs.
The Drovers trailed 29-14 in the latter stages - and looked done for - but late efforts from replacements Kian Abraham and Tiaan Sparrow did, at least, give them the consolation of a losing bonus point.
The visitors had a poor start, going 5-0 down after two minutes when conceding a try to centre Osian Darwin-Lewis but soon responded with centre Adam Warren crossing and fly half Steffan-Jac Jones converting.
A penalty by young Cardiff fly-half Lloyd Lucas was then trumped by a fluid, exciting Llandovery move that got wing Tomi Lewis over for a second converted try.
Despite a yellow card for lock and skipper Sean Moore, the Blue and Blacks got two converted close-range scores from prop Tom Harper and Rees to go into the break 22-14 up.
When Adam Warren and lock Dan Gemine were yellow carded and Steffan Emanuel added another try - converted by Lucas who then added a penalty, all looked lost for the Drovers, now trailing by 15 points.
But the quick-footed Abraham then slalomed through - another replacement Jack Maynard converting - only for home wing Tom Williams to get his side's fifth try after a brilliant counter from full back Matt Young.
Llandovery searched desperately for the bonus point and it came at the death when the precocious Sparrow finished well to score his fifth try of the season.
Cardiff 37 - 28 Llandovery
The Drovers now take a break before hosting Pontypool on Friday, November 21 and Aberavon on Friday, November 28, in an attempt to keep tabs on SRC leaders Ebbw Vale.
