ABERDEEN, S.D. -- Members of the Jamestown High School cross-country team made a trip across the border on Thursday.
The Blue Jays competed at the Sahli/Salmi Invite in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Jamestown's boys team placed fourth out of the five competing teams while the girls finished in fifth place. The team is headed to Casselton for its next meet on Sept. 16.
Freshmen Tristan Champagne and Dax Wick were competing for the Jays' top runner on the boys side. The pair have been alternating the No. 1 and 2 spots for the past four meets. On Thursday, it was Champagne who led the way for the Blue Jay crew, notching a time of 19:11 to place 16th overall. Wick crossed the line 13 seconds after Champagne. Eighth grader Flynn Wiley also broke the 20-minute mark, finishing the 5K in 19:42.
Isabelle Maddock finished as the top Blue Jay girl runner for the fourth consecutive meet, finishing at 22:44. Seventh grader Marcella Maus posted a new personal best time of 22:58 to finish as the No. 2 Blue Jay. Hattie Fitzgerald rounded out the Jays' top three girls.
"We continue to see improvements and are looking forward to more over the next few weeks as the region and state meets get closer," JHS head coach Ken Gardner said.
