NOTRE DAME -- There's a massive discrepancy in experience between the two quarterbacks that will hit the field in Sunday's season opener between #6 Notre Dame & #10 Miami.
The Irish will look to CJ Carr, who's about to start his first college game.
On the other side, Miami also has a new quarterback, but only new to the Hurricanes. Carson Beck transferred from Georgia in January after two seasons as one of the most successful QBs in the country.
"Carson Beck is as good as I've seen when scouting an opponent," Marcus Freeman said on Tuesday.
What isn't entirely clear is how Miami will choose to use Beck.
"Part of how you game plan, a big part of it is schematics, in terms of what you're going to see schematically and how you can defend or attack it schematically," Freeman says.
"The second part of that is one-on-one mismatches. You're going to try to create a mismatch so your guy can beat the opponent."
Notre Dame will have a game plan for creating havoc defensively, on that starts with generating pressure up front. However, Freeman also spoke of the importance of being able to make in-game adjustments.
"We have to be able to have a plan for what we think we'll see schematically. But also, really after the first series or two, be able to adapt to say, 'OK, what is this offense trying to do to the defense?'"
