Police later connected this shooting with a "suspicious situation" in a parking deck in the 2000 block of West Broad Street from the day before. It is unclear whether the robbery charges are linked to the incident inside the parking deck.
Online court records also show that Akers-Reid was arrested in Henrico County just days before the 17-year-old's body was discovered. On April 15, he was charged with assault and battery of a family member, entering a house to commit assault and battery, destruction of property with intent, petit larceny, pointing/brandishing a firearm and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Court records indicate that following his arrest Akers-Reid was released to a parent or responsible adult.

Hardoby was found guilty of the stolen goods charge. She was sentenced to 12 months in jail, with all 12 months suspended.
