ATLANTA -- Half of parents with adult children are providing regular financial assistance to their grown offspring, according to a report by Savings.com

It's the fourth year Savings.com has done the report, saying even the average amount parents give has also reached a three-year high -- contributing $1,474 per month.

Savings.com said it surveyed about 1,000 parents who have adult children. NBC News reports that some experts have said it's harder for younger adults to make it on their own for multiple reasons.

Below are some of the findings from the Savings.com survey.

This year, 50 percent of parents financially contribute to children 18 years old or older. The survey shows some of this due to the current state of the unsettling economy. It also mentions that the growing wealth gap between generations could have also strengthened the financial connection between adult children and their parents.

Here's a Savings.com breakdown from the last three years, showing the percentage of parents who financially contribute to their children who are 18 or older.

The report said Gen Z adults -- who are between 18 and 28 -- receive more financial support from their parents than Millennials, who are 29 to 44 years old.

In 2025, the average monthly financial contributions to adult children was around $1,474 - an increase from $1,384 reported in 2024.

For Gen Z this year, the cost sits at contributing about $1,813 per month. That's compared to $863 for Millennials.

According to Savings.com, parents in the workforce contribute two times more financially to their adult kids monthly than their retirement accounts.

A bulk of the funds go towards groceries. Parents also provide support with cell phones and pay for vacations.
