A number of flood warnings and alerts have been issued across Lancashire and Cumbria.

It comes after Storm Amy brought torrential downpours and strong winds to the region on Sunday and Monday. The Environment Agency has issued a 'be prepared' flood alert for the River Ribble at Hodder.

There are also alerts for the Rivers Kent, Bela, Brathay, Rothay and Winster and the Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwent Water in Cumbria. This means that 'flooding is possible'.

An 'act now' flood warning is also in place at Keswick Campsite and means 'flooding is expected'. The Met Office is predicting more rain will hit the region on Wednesday (September 17), with the heaviest spells coming overnight between 2am and 8am.

More light rain is also forecast for Thursday and again on Saturday. The forecast for today (September 16) reads: "A slightly drier day, albeit still the chance of a few isolated showers. Sunny spells are likely through the morning, but any sunshine turning hazy through the afternoon. Still breezy, though winds easing through the afternoon. Maximum temperature 17C."

The Wednesday forecast states: "Heavy, persistent rain clearing eastwards through the morning, with bright or sunny spells developing through the afternoon. Feeling rather humid but staying breezy. Maximum temperature 21C."

Flood alerts

Upper River Ribble, Hodder

The Environment Agency said: "Persistent rainfall throughout the day has caused river levels to rise. Flooding is possible this evening from 6PM. Rainfall is expected to continue into the evening and overnight and river levels are expected to reach flood alert level from 06:00PM on 15/09/2025. Levels will remain high until the morning.

"Flood alert area: Rivers Ribble, Hodder and other watercourses, from Settle to Samlesbury including Clitheroe, Gisburn, Sawley, Waddington and Ribchester."

Rivers Kent and Bela

The Environment Agency said: "The Flood Warning has now been removed. However, a Flood Alert remains in force for the wider area, so flooding of roads and low lying land is still possible. Areas most at risk include Rivers Kent and Bela and other watercourses, from Kentmere to Silverdale including low lying areas around Staveley, Burneside, Kendal, Milnthorpe and Beetham.

"Light rainfall is forecast to continue this afternoon.Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses."

Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Wins

The Environment Agency said: "Rainfall overnight has caused rising river levels which may lead to flooding of land and road. Areas most at risk include Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster and other watercourses, from Grasmere to Grange-over-Sands including low lying areas around Ambleside, Skelwith Bridge, Windermere, Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Backbarrow, Cark and Cartmel.

"Light showers are expected to continue throughout the afternoon. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water."

Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwent Water

The Environment Agency said: "Flooding of roads and low lying land is possible, property flooding is not expected. Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwent Water, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around The Upper Derwent from Seathwaite to Derwent Water.

"Further flooding is possible this morning as river levels are remaining high due to heavy rainfall. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water."

Flood warning

Keswick Campsite

The Environment Agency said: "High river levels are causing flooding this morning. Areas most at risk include low lying areas bordering the shores of Derwent Water and the frontage of the Keswick Camping and Caravan Club Site.

"Further showers are forecast this evening and overnight tonight. We will continue to monitor rainfall, river, and lake levels. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water, and avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses."
