Family displaced after fire destroys Moscow home

MOSCOW, Idaho -- A family of five has been displaced after a fire consumed their home on the 1700 block of Appaloosa Road in the early hours of August 24.

The Moscow Fire Department responded swiftly, arriving within seven minutes to find heavy smoke and flames erupting from the garage and upper floors, with fire venting through the roof.

Firefighters launched an aggressive exterior attack, using large-diameter hose lines to contain the blaze. Their efforts successfully prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring homes, although one adjacent residence did suffer exterior damage. Due to the structural instability of the fire-damaged building, it was deemed unsafe to enter, and crews maintained a defensive position to ensure safety.

At the time of the fire, two adults and three children were inside the home. Fortunately, all occupants evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported. However, the home sustained extensive damage and is considered a total loss.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced family. The cause and origin of the fire remain undetermined and are under investigation.
