October 15, (THEWILL) -- Morocco claimed a record 16th consecutive international victory on Tuesday evening, defeating Congo 1-0 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. The triumph allowed Walid Regragui's side to complete their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign without dropping a single point, surpassing Spain's previous benchmark of 15 straight wins established between 2008 and 2009.
The Atlas Lions dominated the opening 45 minutes but struggled to convert their superiority into goals. Nayef Aguerd missed the target with a 20th-minute free-kick, whilst Abde Ezzalzouli squandered another opportunity 11 minutes later. Eliesse Ben Seghir also failed to trouble goalkeeper Perrauld Ndinga before the interval despite connecting with Souffian El Karouani's delivery.
Morocco maintained their attacking intent after the break, with Ndinga forced into saves from Ismael Saibari and Neil El Aynaoui. The decisive moment arrived in the 63rd minute when substitute Youssef En-Nesyri finished clinically to register his second goal of the qualifying phase. The striker's intervention proved sufficient to extend his nation's winning streak.
Regragui introduced multiple changes following the goal, attempting to add further impetus to his team's forward play. However, Congo's organised defensive structure prevented the hosts from increasing their advantage despite continued pressure.
The North African nation finished Group E with eight victories from eight matches, becoming the sole team to maintain a perfect record throughout the entire qualifying process. Their defensive solidity complemented their attacking threat, with the side now holding the outright record for consecutive wins in international football.
