AURORA, Ill. (WKRC/CNN Newsource) - A well-trained dog refused to leave his burning home until an officer walked inside and put him on a leash - with the whole incident caught on body cameras.

Officers were dispatched to a burning home at 12:51 p.m. on September 11. Upon arrival, first responders were unable to determine if anyone was in the home, and noticed flames coming out from the back of the house.

The officers forced entry into the home by breaking down the front door before proceeding inside to see if anybody was hurt. Although they did not find any humans, they did find a dog behind a gate in one of the rooms. Although the officer attempted to get a hold of the dog's collar, it quickly evaded him and ran deeper into the house.

The officer continued to follow the animal, soon realizing that the dog wasn't running away from him, but leading him toward something: his leash.

The dog patiently waited as the smoke rose, even lying down on the ground until the officer fastened the leash to his collar. Within moments, the dog jumped to his feet and led the officer outside.

Nobody else was in the home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
