PM Modi, Singapore PM inaugurate India's largest container port in Mumbai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong inaugurated the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT) Phase II at Jawaharlal Nehru Port, marking the launch of India's largest standalone container port.

The terminal, constructed by Man Infraconstruction Ltd (MICL), spans 110 hectares and features a 2,000-meter quay with a capacity of 4.8 million TEUs. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and MLA Parag Shah attended the ceremony alongside other dignitaries, while the Singapore Prime Minister participated virtually.

MICL secured the development contract through a competitive tender in June 2023 under a public-private partnership model. The company was tasked with developing the entire 110-hectare land parcel for the port facility.

The terminal incorporates advanced green and multimodal infrastructure designed to enhance India's maritime trade capabilities and global connectivity. The project represents a significant expansion of India's port capacity and aims to improve trade efficiency.

MICL Managing Director Manan P Shah described the project as a flagship development that elevates India's position in global maritime trade. The company emphasized its commitment to engineering excellence and sustainable infrastructure development.

MICL reported consolidated total income of ₹1,360 crores and net profit of ₹300 crores in the last financial year. The Mumbai-headquartered company operates in construction and real estate development with over six decades of experience across ports, residential, commercial, and road construction segments.
