Donald "Donny" Stanley
PORTLAND - Donald "Donny" Stanley, 59, of Portland, passed away on Aug. 20, 2025 after a brief illness at Maine Medical Center, with his brother, David, by his side.
Born on April 10, 1966, Donny attended Deering High School Class of 1984 and worked at PepsiCo. In August 1992, he was involved in a motorcycle accident that brought significant challenges, but he faced them with resilience and positivity. His mother cared for him at home tirelessly for 22 years until he went to reside at Seaside healthcare in Portland in 2014.
He cherished spending time with his sister, Donna, and his brother, Jimmy, who were devoted caregivers alongside his mother, Eleanor. Donny also loved riding motorcycles with his dad, brothers, and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Later in life, he developed a passion for country music and maintained his sense of humor right up until the day of his passing.
Donny was the youngest of nine children and was preceded in death by his father, Ralph J. Stanley; his brothers James Buzzell and William "Billy" Stanley, and his sister, Kathleen "Kathy" Leary.
He is survived by his loving mother, Eleanor Stanley; his siblings Judith Weeks, Clyde Stanley (and his wife Martha), Donna Ricci (and her husband Robert), Joyce Duval (and her husband Jerome), David Stanley (and his wife June), and sister-in-law, Carol Buzzell. He is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Donny and his roar will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his warmth, humor, and the love he shared with his family.
The family invites you to a time of visitation on Monday Aug. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland immediately followed by a committal service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook.
