KENNEWICK, Wash. - Trios Health has launched the Special Delivery Program to enhance postpartum care and reduce maternal mortality.
The program provides postpartum patients with wristbands for six weeks after delivery. These wristbands serve as reminders for patients, families, and healthcare providers to stay vigilant about postpartum health, according to Trios Health.
Melissa Wilson, Director of the Trios Birth Center, emphasized the program's importance, stating, "The Special Delivery Program is a meaningful step forward in supporting postpartum health."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in 2022 that the U.S. maternal mortality rate was 22.3 deaths per 100,000 live births, with the rate for Black women rising to 69.9 deaths per 100,000.
The program aims to address postpartum complications like anemia and infections, which often occur days or weeks after delivery. It empowers patients to advocate for their health and ensures providers are aware of recent deliveries.
Patients will receive wristbands before leaving the hospital, which help healthcare providers identify postpartum patients, reducing misdiagnosis risks. Families and friends are encouraged to check in on those wearing the wristbands and support their health needs.
Trios Health invites the community to join in raising awareness about postpartum health. For more information, visit their Special Delivery Program here.
The program complements existing postpartum care by encouraging regular healthcare visits and monitoring.
