A co-chairperson of the House Infrastructure Committee (InfraComm) said Saturday suspending inquiries by the House of Representatives and Senate on the alleged anomalies in flood control projects should be decided jointly by both chambers of Congress.

At a news forum, Bicol Saro party-list Representative Terry Ridon, co-chair of the three-committee joint InfraComm panel, was asked if congressional inquiries into the flood control projects controversy should be suspended as President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is forming an independent probe body.

In response, the congressman said, "This is something that should be decided jointly by the Senate and the House... to take a step back, to suspend proceedings and to refer everything to the independent commission."

"But I think, very important is, it is undertaken jointly. Kasi 'yun na nga, hindi puwedeng Kongreso (House of Representatives) lang 'yung umatras, or Senado lang 'yung umatras," Ridon said.

(But I think, very important is, it is undertaken jointly because it shouldn't be only the House of Representatives or the Senate to take a step back.)

Marcos earlier said the independent investigating commission would need forensic investigators, lawyers, justices, and prosecutors who will look at the pieces of evidence on alleged anomalous and ghost flood control projects.

The President had said he will issue an executive order for the establishment of the independent commission.

Malacañang has announced the body will conduct a comprehensive review of projects, identify irregularities, and recommend accountability measures to ensure public trust in infrastructure spending. -- VDV, GMA Integrated News
