Packers' Bo Melton gets roster update on cut day after conversion from wide receiver to cornerback

The news was met with relative uncertainty early in the offseason when it was announced that the Green Bay Packers' wide receiver would be converting to cornerback, a position he hadn't played at all since his very early college days at Rutgers.

But on Tuesday, Melton learned his fate. He made the Packers' 53-man roster, as a CB.

It's a huge development in Green Bay, which may have been looking at cornerback as its weakest unit compared to an already very strong WR group.

Melton is now officially a defender. Earlier this month, he spoke about what that's like.

"I definitely wasn't expecting to make tons of plays," Melton said. "I ain't made a million of them, but I've made some plays. I was like, 'OK,' so I did surprise myself with the skills I brought to the table, I would say. It definitely was fun, just getting out there with the boys."

Melton's brother, Max, is a cornerback for the Arizona Cardinals.

Melton himself has played 22 games over the past two seasons as a wide receiver and special teams player.

Green Bay has a stacked WR depth chart with names like Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Matthew Golden and Savion Williams all in the picture.

This was Melton's best chance to prolong his NFL career, and it's gone as well as anyone could've hoped.
