Bay City area softball: Top-ranked USA makes it 21 in a row at districts

BAY CITY, MI - A look at district softball action in the MLive Bay City coverage area for May 30, 2025. Area coaches are asked to submit results, highlights and comments the night of each event by emailing [email protected].

D4: YET ANOTHER CROWN FOR USA

Unionville-Sebewaing has hoisted a state-record 10 state championship trophies.

But each and every one was made possible by district titles that preceded them.

The No. 1-ranked Patriots launched their quest for an unprecedented sixth straight state title by capturing the Division 4 district softball crown. USA has won an eye-popping 21 consecutive district championships and now sets its sights on a 21st straight regional title when it ventures to Mayville on June 7.

The host Patriots made quick work of the district tournament, needing only one win to bring home the crown. They put on quite a show in that one game, scoring 18 first-inning runs en route to a 21-0 victory over Carsonville-Port Sanilac.

"We had a goal of winning the conference, which we did not complete, but we knew another goal was out there," USA coach Marc Reinhardt said. "The district is the first step toward that event, and we just secured our district."

USA put up huge numbers despite batting just twice in the three-inning contest. Morgan Armbruster highlighted the onslaught, blasting a grand slam in a five-RBI performance. Macy Prime had two doubles among her three hits and three RBIs while Kate Beagle knocked two hits and Lily Mammel drove in two runs.

Olivia Green spun a three-inning no-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk.

USA (16-15) entered postseason play with a .500 record and riding a seven-game losing streak, courtesy of late-season showdowns with tradition-rich programs Swan Valley, Millington, Midland and Standish-Sterling.

But tournament time is USA's time of year, and it arrived with yet another district bang.

D1: CENTRAL BOWS OUT IN SEMIFINAL

Bay City Central's softball season came to a tough conclusion as the Wolves were downed 16-6 by host Swartz Creek in the district semifinal.

Central (15-19-1) fell in an early 6-0 deficit before scratching its way back, drawing within 10-6 through five innings. But Swartz Creek tacked on six runs in the sixth to bring the game to an end.

Alivia Kukla, Heidi Dahn and Eli Maciejewski each knocked two hits in the finale of their prep careers for Central. Izabel Czuba drove in two runs.

Swartz Creek ripped six extra-base hits, including a home run by Reese Redlich. Avery Ludwig knocked two doubles among her four hits and seven RBIs.

D3: CASS CITY DELIVERS FOURPEAT

Cass City captured its fourth consecutive district championship, powering through Bad Axe and Caro for the D3 title.

The Red Hawks (29-10) scored multiple runs in all five innings of the title game for an 18-1 win over Caro. Ashley Ziemba delivered four hits and four RBIs while Brea Pallas added three hits and drove in three runs. Alysa Fritz fired a three-hitter with eight strikeouts for the win.

Cass City used a seven-run third inning to pull away from Bad Axe for the 10-2 semifinal win. Ziemba and Kylie McKee each drilled three hits to back winning pitcher Fritz.

The Red Hawks advance to regional action at Millington.

D4: MIO WINS FIRST TITLE SINCE 2019

Mio captured its first district championship since 2019, downing a pair of North Star League rivals en route to the crown.

The Thunderbolts outdueled host Au Gres 9-5 in the title tilt, getting a complete-game pitching performance from Kenzie Wickham. Angellaya Burden ripped a double and a triple and drove in three runs in the win. Ella Strach and Ashlyn Gadowski each tallied three hits.

Mio knocked seven extra-base hits in a 13-3 win over St. Helen Charlton Heston in the semifinal, with Wickham notching the victory.

Mio advances to Vestaburg to vie for the first regional championship in program history.
